Restyle your heavy-bridal outfits to wear for other occasions

Bridal outfits are gaining more focus in Indian weddings these days, especially with the increasing craze of posting on social media. Heavy budgets, good amount of time and lot of patience are allocated along with the dreams:) Indian wedding is a long affair with a lot of ceremonies, rituals and celebrations. Every bride wishes to wear and look her best on her day. For every occasion may it be Haldi or Mehendi or Sangeet or Cocktail Party or Wedding or Reception she wants to look stunning with well-designed outfits carefully made for the occasion.

So, a minimum of 7–8 outfits would be made out of which at least 2–3 outfits would be the heavy ones with big budgets. Family does not mind spending on these outfits to make it look special on that day. But once that occasion is over, the outfits get into the wardrobe safely and sit in a muslin cloth bag. How can you get more value for the money spent without being repetitive or not looking gaudy in a friend’s wedding or first Diwali party?

So ladies, do not worry, we got you covered. We have given 5 ideas to restyle your very heavy outfits to less-heavy outfits so that you can wear them for your first Diwali or any other occasion.

(1) Make an Anarkali out of that heavy lehenga

You can make an Anarkali out of reception or wedding lehenga in two ways — (a) attach the blouse to the lehenga with a belt or an extra fabric in the midriff and adjust the length Or (b) stitch a separate bodice and re-pleat the fabric to make it a simple Anarkali

(2) Team up your lehenga with a stylised blouse / shirt

To mellow down the heavy look of your wedding lehenga, you can team it with a stylised blouse or crop top or a shirt. Use statement patterns with a western twist like big collars or sleeves. Keep the fabric to plain silk or satin. Dupatta is a NO-NO. This will give a whole new look to your outfit. Do not forget to wear a statement neck piece.

(3) Use that heavy dupatta differently

Use the heavy net or georgette or brocade dupatta you used for your wedding lehenga with a simple salwar or sharara suit. Keep the salwar suit in single colour and simple so that the dupatta adds all the zing to it.

(4) Heavy blouse and a plain saree is great combo

Pair your heavy blouse with a simple plain saree. Keep the saree completely plain to draw the attention to the blouse with heavy work. Popular combination would be with contrast colours. Same colour with a belt works well too. Ask you tailor to give back the left over blouse material or ask him to make a saree belt. Saree can be soft crepe, satin or anything that has a good flow.

(5) Convert that rich dupatta into a salwar top or pants

Stitch a dressy kurti or an indo-western top for your jeans or even a trouser out of that rich dupatta which is usually made out of net or georgette or brocade fabric. Keep the bottom/ top simple. Save the borders for another outfit 🙂
